Dear Next Earthians,

We’re starting this new series of posts to make our development efforts more transparent for you! The past few months have been tough for the dev team: priorities shifted, new ideas came, previous efforts went into the void, initiatives have been disqualified, and so on. As the web3 industry shifts, so must we. The only thing permanent is change. So said Heraclitus around 500 BC. Probably he didn’t mean crypto at the time, but it’s more than applicable here.

Therefore, here’s the disclaimer for the post series: any information contained herein is only valid until the market shifts. We might alter the entire development line within days, should the market invalidate our previous efforts — only to change it back a few weeks later, if the winds were changing again. I know, I know… This vertical is not for the ones who like predictable working days.

So, without any further unnecessary dawdling, here’s what’s cooking at
the moment:

Staking

Our core team is working hard so we can release staking as promised. We’re revamping our unit system for this, creating an entire internal economy so land purchases will be in balance with the “interest” they pay. It is not an easy challenge, but we enjoy it a lot! Our token architects, economic modelers, architects, developers and designers are working hard to make this happen soon.

PAAS (Platform-as-a-Service)

We know that partnership is the key to success. We’re going to open up Next Earth for 3rd parties: they will be able to build solutions on our platform and ecosystem. Do you want to create a grid-based game? Do you want your pastry shop to appear on the map? Do you want to know what minerals are underneath your land? We have dozens of viable use cases — and we’ll give you the tools and means to build them. We’re now laying down the foundations of the platform-as-a-service solution, then we’re opening up services gradually.

UX/UI revamp

Yes, we know. The UX of Next Earth is “less than ideal” (we really love euphemisms, you see). An entire UX team is working on creating a better user experience: for easier onboarding, easier land purchase, more convenient… well… everything. It’s going to take a while as the site had tons of functions, but we’ll get there.

Marketplace

I was genuinely surprised to see how many transactions are happening on our marketplace. I’m raising my hat to all who are usingit: it has multiple UX issues as well including listing and filtering. We heard you and we always listen: we’re making it more convenient. This project one is only in its discovery phase, so expect more news in the next dev
diary.

In the next installment of this article I’ll give you update on these four
projects — and will also lift the veil for a bit so you can have a glimpse on
our long-term plans.

And don’t forget: “panta rhei.”
